C.A.S. E. card and get well soon

While checking out the entries for Unstampabelles Christmas theme the other day, I came across a card which I immediately thought I'd have to CASE. The blog name is Magagi's Crafty Bits, and you can find her original card either amongst the entries on Unstampabelles blog site, or, go to the Magagi's blog here: http://magagiscraftybits.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/quick-christmas-makes.html

I used my Spellbinder Poinsettia dies for the flower, and glitter paper both of which are available from Blue Edge Crafts.

 

 

 

The second card I made for a fellow resident of our retirement estate who has just had  hip replacement surgery.



The stamp set used is Flourishe's 'Mix 'n' Mugs' stamp set.

I used Copics to colour it in, and then die cut with a spellbinders die. Mounted onto an embossed background. I sponged the white cardstock with a pale blue before removing from the die (after embossing) and finished with pearls and corner stickers.

 

I'm already thinking of the Christmas cards I want to make for NEXT year! how sad is that? so many ideas, and this Christmas is done and dusted in regards to cards anyways.

While I've CASED Magagie's card, this doesn't mean I don't think there are no other stunning entries, there are so many, there really is, this particular card just struck me with it's simplicity of design, and speedy construction, perfect for that last minute card.

Unstampabelles Christmas Challenge

3rd December 2012

For this final Challenge of the year, I'm pleased to be able to be the sponsor. Below is a picture of what I'm offering on behalf of Unstampabelles December Challenge.

and here is the card I made as my Design Team submission.

For this card I used a laser cut shaped card. The laser cut front I backed with green glitter paper. and the inside square is covered with a paper from KaiserCraft 61/2" December 25 paper stack. I used border stickers in gold and red holly stickers for the corners.

The centre of the front has a circle of gold glitter paper and one of the push out tags from the paper stack.

The floating Santa is a sticker image which I've placed onto acetate, then cut out, leaving a tag from the Santa hat bobble, this is folded over and adhered to the reverse of the front of the card making the Santa float over the front of the card.

I've decorated the inside of the card with Christmas stickers from the same set as the Santa, glitter sticker sentiment and another push out tag from the paper stack.

The laser cut shaped card and the glitter papers come from Blue Edge Crafts.
I've had the Santa sticker for a long time and honestly don't remember where I got it from.

I hope this whimsical card gives you some inspiration for those piles of Christmas cards we all seem to be busily making at the moment.

Catch up

I've been rather ill the past couple of weeks, which is why there has been no new posts since the September Unstampabelles Challenge post. I hate taking antibiotics and really do try to let my body sort out virus's on it's own. However, Bronchitis with Pneumonia, don't go away by themselves as I've just found. Two courses of antibiotics, and I'm almost completely better.

So, I'm now back in action and have a few photo's to post.
After this post, I probably won't have time to post until after our European holiday, we fly out of Australia on September 23rd, and return on November 14th.

We are fly to Rome and pick up a 21 day cruise, after that it's off to Venice for a couple of days, then we head to Germany to spend a couple of weeks with my brother and his family. After Germany we head to Ireland (Northern Ireland) for a week with one of my sisters and hopefully catch up with other family members if they can get over from England. Then we head off to Hong Kong for a couple of days before flying home.

I find the worst thing about this trip is what clothes to pack, as we are going to be crossing seasons, so it's going to be layering, layering and more layering with maybe some thermals thrown in for good measure.

Anyway, back to the focus of my blog CRAFTS!!!!!

The first two cards are my samples my Monday ladies group made last week. I've decided to try and make a feminine one and a masculine card each week, see how long I can come up with ideas for the men.

The Samples for the ladies for this coming Monday is Calendars, Heather and I had fun today making the samples, we did some feminine, and even two masculine ones. These are quick and easy to make and would make great stocking fillers for Christmas.

Card one is made using core-dinations card which has been cut and embossed then sanded.

 

I called this the embossed bird. I got the idea from Merry of Unstampabelles, who's Design Team card for this months challenge uses this technique. The stickers are from the Sticker Store, and the papers are Stampin Up.

 Calendars, I cut A4 card stock to measure 15cm x 24cm, this was then scored at 6cm, 12cm, 18cm giving 4 equal portions, all folds are mountain folds, the top and bottom portions overlap and are adhered together to give a triangle. Before adhering the base together though, Heather and I embossed the card by simply folding in half, and putting the whole piece into one of the larger embossing folders. We used a hot glue gun to adhere our flowers, pearl strands and leaves.

Some images have been removed to conserve space.

Unstampabelles Challenge #15

Unstampabelles Challenge #15 is sponsored by The Sticker Store, you can see a link to the Sticker Store on the right hand side of my page. Our Theme for this month is EMBOSSING.

I've been pretty unwell for the past week due to a nasty virus, and it was only on Friday night that I actually got back into my craft room after a few days in bed feeling like the shadow of death was hanging over me, obviously it's NOT my time to depart this earthly coil so here I am getting better, too slowly for my tastes, but then I've always been a want it and  want it NOW kind of person.

Given that here in Australia September is the first month of our spring, I decided to go with that and incorporate the embossing.
I've used two embossing folders, the first one is the background and is Spellbinders M-Bossabilities EL-003 and I used the inside design of this double sided embossing folder. The second embossing folder is by Craft Concepts and is called Sycamore.
Now please dont' be anal here folks and judge the fact that the  tree is called sycamore, the background is obviously NOT sycamore leaves, and I've put tiny Daisy's on my tree.

My base card is a lovely ribbed card which I buy from Blue Edge Crafts, it's a great weight card blank which can hold quite a bit of dimension weight added onto the front, I use it a lot for my base cards for just that reason, only wish it came in colours other than white.
For my background colours I've used Stampin Up's Certainly Celery, and Pink Pirouette. I cut and embossed the pieces then punched the edges with a scallop border punch by Kaszazz.
The tree was embossed onto Stampin Up's Whisper White, then only the embossing was coloured with Copics, I used E11 for the tree trunk and branches, and YG03 to give the effect of new spring growth.

I used an embossing tool to make my tiny daisies curl upwards, then stuck them into place and finished them with a tiny Stampin Up pearl in the centre of each.

The ribbon is Stampin Up's 1/8" Lucky Limeade organdy, and I've used a flower shaped paper clip to anchor it to.
The two dragonflies are from my stash and I've had them for ages, no idea where I got them from.
The sun is punched from Stampin Up's So Saffron using Stampin Up's 1" circle punch and the dove is a Martha Stewart punched out of SU's basic black.
The sentiment is a computer generated word art which I punched out and backed with Modern Label punched out of So Saffron..

 

I hope you like my interpretation of not only the embossing theme but of Spring also.

Card Making Group

Last week my Monday card making group made by request some male cards. Both of these cards are variations on previously posted themes, so I'll only post the photo's and not go into detail as to product used or techniques.

The second set of two cards are what my ladies group will be making this week. The first one is a wholly Stampin Up card, and is inspired by a card shown in the new catalogue which commences on September 1st. The colours used however are not from the new In Colour range.
The second card is quite different, it's what I call a hybrid card, products used are from Stampin Up, Kaszazz and Kaiser Craft .

Card 1 uses Whisper white, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin pie Lucky Limeade and Pacific point card stock.
The Birthday sentiment is from Well Scripted stamp set, and the images under the tags are from Small Talk stamp set.

I used the large and medium tag punches, and the scallop border punch, and the Boho Blossoms punch. The ribbon is Old Olive in 0.04cm (1/8") width. I added a small gemstone to the centre of each flower.
I used Stampin Write markers to colour in the images behind the tag flaps.

 

 

The second card is of my own design, I have seen cards of this shape in magazines, but I believe the base cards are purchased pre-made so you only have to decorate them. I figured out the size etc myself for this one, and there is a join which you can see in the side on photo. (almost like two cards of differing heights joined together)



For this card I started with  12 x 12 Real Red Stampin Up smooth card stock and cut out my pieces. (If you are interested in measurements, email me and I'll send you a diagram)

 The pattern paper is from a Kaiser Craft 6x6 paper pad called 'Tis the Season' I used a corner punch in each corner. The Embossed piece is Stampin Up Brushed silver embossed with the New 'Holiday Frame' then cut out. I stamped the centre sentiment using a stamp from 'Punches Three' using Real Red ink onto Whisper White card.
After trimming my square of pattern paper, I had two strips left so I used these on the small step of the card at top and bottom and left the centre plain. I used stamps from 'Welcome Christmas' to decorate the lower step. Joy was stamped twice, once in 'Basic Black'  (don't like the new Stampin up inkpads) and then again in Real Red. I cut out the centre of the 'O' of the black stamped image, and only the J and the Y in the red, the red letters are mounted with foam mounts over the black, and a large rhinestone (from Kaszazz) was stuck into the cut away centre of the black O.  I added some Kindy Glitz to the tree to finish it off.
The whole word was then mounted with dimensionals onto the card. The Silhouette image is also foam mounted. as is the Christmas sentiment in the embossed oval. The finished card folded measures 14cm x 14cm, so will fit into a standard square envelope.

I could think of a lot of other ways of finishing and/or decorating this type of card, but have kept it simple for the skill level of the ladies who will be making it.

Craft Mad Swap for August - Pennants

For the August swap at CraftMad, we had to use pennants. Each person makes two cards and mails off to their partner. (since I know that my receiving partner this month always sends 3 cards, I have made 3 cards for her) This month it's a round robin as we have an uneven number, so I sent to one person, but will receive my cards from somebody else. Still sitting at the mail box waiting for mine, they've been sent but I think Australia Post has done what they do best and lost them. lol

Anyway, back to the cards I sent to my partner.  I sent three, all quite different, but all with pennants as required.

The first card is very much a scrap card since I raided my scrap box for most of the stuff used to produce it. The only things not from my scrap box is the base card and the flower, although I used scraps to punch the parts.

Card 1 grew around my wishing to use the centre journal tag. I've had them for ever and a day and thought it well beyond time I used them.
I started by coating the plain paper journal tag with Stampin Up's All purpose ink 'Champagne Mist' this gave it a lovely golden shimmer.
Then I stamped the sentiment and embossed it in yellow.
The pennants were punched with a Stampin Up punch, and the lace and twine are also from Stampin Up. The flower is punched using some Kaszazz punches  and the metal gift tag at the bottom I've had for so long I've absolutely NO idea where it came from.

 

 

Card No. 2 started with my wish to use a new die from La La land (the dress form) and some new Washi tape I got from Kaszazz. Dress form and measuring tape to me screams of sewing, so that's why it's got buttons, and reels of twine to represent sewing thread. The organdy ribbon is simply scrunched onto strong adhesive tape which I ran across the tops of the pennants, and tied a matching bow around the middle of the dress form which is cut out of dull gold card. I don't have a stamp or die for the cotton reels, so had to hand draw and cut them hence they are not exactly alike, but hey, I liked the finished look, so I'm okay with that.

I used a spellbinders die 'Foral ovals' to cut the glitter paper (available from Blue Edge Crafts) which is behind the dress form. and the Washi tape is simply stuck down the left hand side, The back ground paper is a scrap and mounted onto a square base card which I bought from Blue Edge Crafts.

 

 

Card No. 3. I stamped and mounted this very cute Kookaburra (which is a Kaszazz Stamp) onto Stampin Up's Pear Pizzaz cardstock, (I'm not at all happy that it's not in the new catalogue) love that colour.  I stuck a scrap of Stampin Up's green seam binging ribbon over the background paper which is a Stampin Up DSP after I stamped some Fronds and leaves. The pennant was embossed with a Spellbinders double sided embossing folder, then I went over the embossing with glitter glue. After adding touches of colour to the Kookaburra's breast, I went over him with SU's 'Champagne Mist' to add sheen. I hand wrote the Hello!, which now I look at it again, think it spoils it. should have used a stamp or sticker. Too late now, my swap partner has it  already.

 

I hope you like my swap cards, apart from some obvious imperfections, Which I prefer to term as Design Originals, they didn't turn out to shabbily at all.

Timeless scrapbook layout

I decided to use this Kaszazz scrapbook layout to show some photo's of my elder son, who by the way is now in his mid 40's. In this layout he ranges between 14 and 16 years of age.

I really love the way you get immersed in memories when you do scrap booking! besides the absolutely delightful layouts, I love the memories doing them invokes. Time to reminisce......

I did the big photo page as per the suggested layout, but the page with 6 portrait pockets, I changed to suit me.

I'm going to do this one again for my younger son (also now in his 40's) as I think it's a really nice male layout.

 I've made this 6 pocket page my first page for this layout, as it fits perfectly with the reverse of the layout I did of Jaime_Leigh a  week or so ago.

All these photo's were school photo's which is why they much better than anything I could produce, my photography sucks to say the least!

If I didn't already have an excellent Kaszazz consultant, I'd even consider becoming one. Not that I have the time or the inclination to go out and do workshops. I like doing my craft at home.

Wine drinkers Birthday Cards

I have a couple of male birthdays coming up, one of them my husbands. Both are lovers of the fruits of the vine in liquid form. Hence the two cards you'll see below.

I've cheated with these two as the toppers come already made, all I had to do was stick them on! but that's allowed now and then isn't it????

For my base card I've used the lovely ribbed card available from Blue Edge Crafts. onto that I've layered Stampin Ups Night of Navy on one and Riding hood Red on the other. The Pattern paper is a Stampin Up DSP from 'Well Worn'.
The Sentiment is a stamp from Stampin Up's  hostess set called After thoughts, and I've embossed it with Kaszazz gold glitter embossing powder. The masking tapes I've used on two of the squares on each card are also from Kaszazz.
The toppers are from Sullivans #45844. There are 8 toppers in each pack.

Hope you like them, the cards will be given with a nice bottle of Shiraz, Which  knowing the men will probably be of far more interest than the card. Hey such is life.....

More Cards

Been card making! what a surprise I hear you say.

I've got the two samples for my ladies group tomorrow afternoon.

I'm not sure the ladies will get both cards finished as the Babushka card could be a bit challenging for their skill level. But we will see how they go.
The second card is a bit fiddly as the base card has to be cut to shape. I know you can buy them already cut, but I don't have enough or in the right colour, so they are going to have to cut their own.

The Babushka card is made using a set of Kaszazz Babushka stamps. The background paper is a from a paper stack I bought in Spotlight, so it's an relatively cheap one, I've matted it onto a green paper from the same stack.
Babushka is stamped onto Stampin Up Whisper White using Real Red ink then fussy cut out and flat mounted onto the pattern paper. The Doll on the front is layered, I stamped a second doll, and cut out the face and apron and dimensionally mounted them onto the base image. a few gems to finish.

The Christmas Card is made using a Transparent sticker with a double embossed engraved verse. They are from Doodey and you can buy them from Blue Edge Crafts.
I stuck the sticker onto white card and fussy cut it out. The Sticker topper is mounted with foam mounts. As mentioned before, the base card I've used you can also buy from Blue Edge Crafts, but I've made this one myself. I covered it in a block Christmas design which I found in my stash. Sorry I can't tell you where it came from as it had no name on it. I edged the pattern paper with a narrow gold border peel off, also available from Blue Edge Crafts.
Inside the card, the pattern paper is from Stampin up, I used punches to punch out the snowflakes from crystal glitter paper which I get from Blue Edge Crafts, the holly leaf was punched from a scrap and I used a small circle hand punch to cut the berries, you could use gems instead though.

The Label is a Spellbinder die and I edged it in SU Real Red before flat mounting for a personal message.

Sympathy Cards

A dear friend lost her mother this week, and besides making a sympathy card from my husband and myself, I was asked by several others to make cards for them to give to her.

Sympathy cards rank along with male cards in terms of difficulty in the ideas section. They need to convey the caring of the giver, without being too over the top in decoration and bling, at least that's my thoughts on the subject.

Here are the cards I made this week, I believe that she likes them all. They are all quite subdued but the feelings and caring of the giver is still evident. I hope these are of some small inspirational ideas for when you too have to cope with the sad loss of someone.

Unstampabelles August Challenge No 14 Flowers

Blue Edge Crafts or BEC as I often call them, are the biggest sellers of Spellbinder dies in Australia. Of course they also sell a whole heap of other delicious crafting goodies, so go check them out. They are reasonably priced for not only their goods but the postage as well. Well worth a visit.
This is what Blue Edeg Crafts have on offer for this months prize.

My DT card for this months challenge is a Shadow Box Card, which due to it's dimension has it's own presentation box, I got the original idea for this card from Donna @ little Claire's Designs blogspot, dated Friday 15th June 2012.


Items used to make this card are: 2 pieces of Stampin Up Very Vanilla card cut to 21cm x 14.5cm,.
Martha stewart border punch, Spellbinder circle dies a 3/4" circle punch, Gold Mirror card, Kaszazz Florish dies, I made 3 cream roses, 2 small pink paper tole roses, DCWV adhesive fabric paper and  Cream Stampin Up pearls. The font is  'Accord SF' size 16.

The box is made from Stampin Up very Vanilla and Pink Pirrouette. The top decoration was die cut with a Cheery Lyn die FRM 132 French Lattice sml Frame. Some of the pieces cut out, I edged with  Stampin Up Regal Rose and used a dot of wet glue to adhere into position and finished with a pearl in the centre. The box also has a Satin edged organdie ribbon wrapped around the box lid sides and tied in a bow at the front. (I used my Crafters Companion to score the box lid and base to make sure they fit together well.

And here they are. The sides of the card push inwards to place in the box, and as soon as you remove it, they spring back out again.

I can give you exact measurements and more detailed information should you wish to make one yourself.

I'm really please with the finished effect, very pretty, girly and PINK!!! my favourite colour.

Cat in the Window Card

This is the second card I've prepared for my Monday afternoon ladies group.

This card is definitely a hybrid card in terms of products used as I've combined a Kaszazz design with some Kaszazz products and some Stampin Up products, card from Blue Edge Crafts and the cat is obviously a real moggie as I've NO idea where I got that brad from. lol

Products used are:

• White dimple card stock A4 (available from Blue Edge Crafts) cut to 21cm x 10.5cm, scored and folded in half. This is the base card.
• Stampin Up Tangerine Tango Card stock (retired) cut to 14cm x 10cm
• Kaszazz Window stamp 1830LL
• Memento Ink - Black
• Kaszazz double sided paper, Terrace Garden / Dots 1361, street scene section cut to 9cm x 7.5cm.
• Plain vellum strip 3cm wide, punched along one edge. Use the Eyelet border punch.
• SU border punch 'Eyelet Border'
• SU punch 13/8" (3.5cm) square
• SU ink pad Cajun Craze
• SU stamp set 'Elements of Style' use the flourish and sentiment
• Acetate cut to 9.5cm x 8cm
• Cat brad
• SU Dimensional foam mounts
• Double sided tape

Onto the Tangerine Tango, stamp the Window stamp approximately 1cm down from the top and centred width wise on the card using memento ink.
Use the square punch to punch out the windows.

Using the flourish stamp from Elements of Style, and Cajun  Craze ink pad, stamp the flourish in the two bottom corners, and a tiny bit in the top left corner.

Stamp the sentiment with Cajun Craze between the two flourishes under the window.

Using double sided tape, adhere pieces of the strip of punched vellum to represent curtains to the wrong side of the T/Tango card piece.
Again using DS tape, mount the piece of acetate over the vellum.
Poke a small hole with a pricky tool and insert your cat brad.

Using Double sided tape, mount the street scene piece of Terrace Garden to the front of your base card, making sure to position it so that it fills the window once the topper is fixed into place.

Using SU Dimensional foam mounts mount the window over the street scene completing the front of your card.

This is a very easy and quick card to make.

Male Pop up Box card with tutorial

This is one of the sample cards I've just finished making for my ladies group on Monday afternoons.

I'll post card two tomorrow as this post is rather long.

They asked me if we could do a male card this week, so the Box pop up card is it! I made a female version of this card a few weeks ago. If you want to see that one, scroll through my previous posts, it wasn't all that long ago, so shouldn't take long to find. (I'ts called Pop up box card & others and is dated 17th July 2012)

Products used for this are: (in no particular order)
SU Soft Suede card stock; Always Artichoke card stock; Early Espresso card stock; Daffodil Delight card stock; Matt silver metallic card stock;  SU Tool Shed background stamp; SU Totally Tools stamp set; Always Artichoke ink pad, StazOn black ink pad; Cuttlebug Swiss dots embossing folder; Century Gothic font size 12; SU Modern Label punch; SU Bigz Top Note die.

The box squashes flat to go into an ordinary envelope, and pops back up (with a tiny bit of help to stand straight up) when removed from the envelope.

Cut the Soft Suede card for the base to measure 29cm x 12cm. With the long edge of the cut piece against the top of you scoreboard, (I use Score Pal) Score your piece at: 1.5cm, 5.5cm, 8cm, 12cm, 14.5cm, 17cm, 23.5cm and 27.5cm.
Sharply crease each fold. the centre fold at the middle of the card, (14.5cm) is valley fold, all others are mountain folds.

Using the Swiss Dots embossing folder, emboss the whole piece.

Place double sided tape in only the middle of the sections adjacent to the 14.5cm scoreline (both sides) and from edge to edge at each end of the whole piece, (see photo 2 for placement).

Use Always Artichoke ink, stamp all over the piece of Always Artichoke card, then die cut the Top Note die.
Place the Top Note die cut piece centrally into the valley created in the centre of the piece of base card and adhere into place. Fold both ends under and adhere to each side of the now closed valley section. (see photo 3)

Using StazOn ink pad, stamp the tools from Totally Tools onto Matt silver Metallic card. Stamp only the hammer and saw onto the Early Espresso, and only the tape measure and the screwdriver onto the Daffodil Delight. Also ink up just the shifter from the Tool Shed background stamp and stamp onto Matt silver metallic card.
Fussy cut all tools out. With the  Daffodil delight, for the tape measure, cut away the measure section and mount the box part over the tape measure, leaving the silver section showing, mount only the Yellow handle onto the screwdriver, cut out only the handles from the early espresso for the saw and the hammer and mount into place. (These tool bits were all glued together with wet glue)
Using Dimensionals (foam mounts) mount the tools as you please.
I printed out the sentiment in dark green onto white card using Century Gothic font in size 12, punched it out with SU Modern label punch. Then I punched to more labels out of Daffodil Delight, and cut them to create a border around the sentiment. (1 piece I cut Lengthwise, the other I cut in half width wise).

Heather and I had a great day yesterday, we started (eventually) at 11am and finished at 9pm Between those times, we completed two, 2 page layouts, had lunch, went to Pt Adelaide to pick up Heathers Kaszazz order, came home, scrapped and scrapped, had a yummy dinner prepared by my dear heart, and them continued scrapping. All in all it was a lovely, relaxing and laughter filled day. Thanks so much Heather. xx

Here are the two layouts we did. the first one is a master class, and the second is a beginners class, the first one took about 5 hours, sooooo much prep work to do, but sooooo much fun. The second one took about an hour. Heather had never seen this technique before and was a little unsure of what to do, I've made quite a few cards with plated chevrons, (they look particularly effective if you use a strongly contrasted double sided card and chevron the fold)

I really like the soft colours of the masterclass, I love Hydrangeas! and the vibrancy of the beginners layout really suits the personality of my late sister Maggie, seen on page one with her son in law.

The photo on the second page shows Maggie at the time of my niece and her husbands wedding  with all her family around her. A lovely happy time for them all,

A lovely vibrant lady now at peace.

I've added additional flowers to my layout, and both my photos are landscape, which are I think the only changes from the original Kaszazz layout.
