<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I now have a 3 photo's to share with you of the work done by my lovely ladies!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The first photo is of a quilt made by Leanne. I had all the ladies make the same blocks since I selected each to teach a particular technique, starting with the very basics of accurate cutting, accurate piecing etc, building up to make their first quilts of which they are all justifiably proud.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

The next piece of work is done by Evelyn, I've not been able to as yet get a photo of her quilt. But this is a table runner she made after completing her quilt. She found this pattern particularly hard to figure out, but her persistence won in the end and she has done a very good job of this design.

Last but certainly not least, is the lovely first ever project quilting or otherwise done by Robyn. Robyn's quilt is of course exactly the same blocks as Leanne's, however her choices in fabrics and colours make it uniquely her own. where Leanne added plain borders, Robyn has made a pieced border. A very lovely quilt one she can be proud off.

I have other photo's to get a hold of so will post them when I eventually get them.

This style has been around for quite some time, and I really can't remember how many years ago I first made a card like this. Old is new again!

I used Stampin Up Melon Mambo card stock for my base card, and whisper white for the insert.
The pretty papers are from a 6x6 Scrapbook papers designed by Brenda Walton for K&Company. I've had this stack in my stash for years, so don't know if it's still available or not.

The stamps I used are both from Stamp-It, the inside stamp is Cherish Birthday 2448D and the outside stamp is Especially for you 2931C. If Stamp-It are still in business they were located in Perth Western Australia.

The only die I used is a Tim Holtz Easel Stand for the back of this card since it can't stand on it's own. I also used Stampin Up's Decorative Label punch for the front message.

I started by cutting my base card with an A4 piece of Melon Mambo card which i cut to 14cm wide.
I then scored 1cm in from each long edge.
I scored 6cm downs from the top short edge and again at 20.5cm. from the top edge I cut away the card on the two 1cm score lines up to the 20.5 cm scoreline. this leaves a 1 cm edge to turn in and stick the bottom section of the card up to the middle of the card. I used strong score-tape to do this.
Out of whisper white I cut a piece measuring 11.5cm square, along one edge I scored a line 1 cm down, this becomes the top edge. with the bottom of the base card adhered up, insert your scored piece of white and apply score-tape to the underside of the 1cm scored edge, fold the edge down, then fold the top of the base card down to adhere the white card in it's correct position.

Open the top, pulling up the insert and stamp your sentiment. Decorate as desired, I wanted mine to look like a gift box. apply the easel stand to the back and your card is ready to go.
You may wonder why i call it My Design Studio, Until recently i was on the committee of a local Quilting group, during the second year of my two year term, one of the other ladies kept asking (all of us, not just me) what we called our creative space. I always said 'My disaster area' mainly because that's exactly what it generally looks like, I cannot interrupt the creative process to put things away, sorry! buts that's how it is.... Any way, back to the story, I kept being told that's not a proper named, anyways, one day I decided that I'd humour her and said okay! it's 'My Design Studio' oohh!! lovely name she said, and never asked me again. Good I thought!!!! A few weeks later, she staggers into a meeting with a Wood turned sign to go over or on the doors of our respective creative area, you guessed it, mine said 'My Design Studio' it's beautiful, (but I still refer to the room as my disaster area) My Design Studio is reserved for the very rare occasions when its tidy.

After decluttering my creative space, I found an urge to do something I've done very little of this past year, and that's to make some cards. and here they are, well, not all of them some were Christmas Cards and have already gone to their recipients.

I rather enjoyed the process, seems a break does bring back the enthusiasm after all. So maybe I shouldn't have given away all the stuff I did! ah well, I have plenty more, really, I honestly do which is why a clearing out was desperately needed.

Today I want to talk a bit about 'Stuff', by this I mean Stuff I've been doing, Stuff I've been making and general everyday Stuff.

Over the past year, I have gone from running my own Machine Embroidery Classes to running quilting classes for beginners, and i'm learning just as much from my students as they are from me. I sincerely doubt that anyone can honestly say they know it all. Some may know one heck of a lot, others less so, I'm honestly on the lower end of the scale when it comes to quilting knowledge, but happily share my limited knowledge with rank beginners.

My ladies who started off by having no idea about quilting, no idea of what was required to quilt, no idea how much time and effort you put in, and no idea how many times we unpick (sorry! Reverse Sew) our piecing, have now just completed their very first quilt and to say that they have GROWN, is a gross understatement. They have grown in knowledge, they have grown in confidence, they have grown in skills, they have grown in friendship, they have become very dear friends, and i'm so very proud of each and every one of them. As their quilts are finished, I'll get photo's and with their permission, post them for all to admire.

I have learnt to be better organised, I've learnt to turn someones vague ideas into practical reality, I've learned that I know less than I thought. and yes I've learned to laugh at myself even more than I already did.

Life is a joy, embrace it.

I've also started to do some volunteer work. I have many years of office skills which now i'm retired haven't just gone away, and there are charity organisations which to my surprise, actually need people like me and welcomed me with open arms. I'm loving being able to give back to my community some much needed time and skills.

All in all, I'm not so much retired anymore, as full time busy on a wide variety of projects and interests.

I'm learning to digitize using Hatch, I've had some moderate success with what I've put together so far, but am far from becoming the next big thing in the Machine Embroidery design world, (not that i'm aiming that high) I just want to be able to put together a design I want but can't find already out there in embroidery land within my financial scope. ( i'm still buying up designs so, commercial designers don't have to worry)

Currently I'm getting stuff ready for a Christmas Trading Market which is rapidly approaching and i'm sure I don't have enough stuff......... ohhhh........ ah well, it is what it is. I can always take orders.

Here are just a few pic's of some of my 'Stuff' This is by no means all I've made, just a small selection.
I've had this particular set for over 4 years and honestly can't say that I've stitched anything from the set out before now, my bad, the designs are gorgeous!

This particular design is part of a set of 12 designs called cutwork corners projects.

For the centre of my table runner I used Hatch to make my alterations to the design, I took the butterfly from the corner, reduced it's size and placed 4 in a circle to make the centre piece.

My fabric is handkerchief linen, and stitched out beautifully. The thread used is Robson-Anton I didn't want a thread that completely disappeared into the fabric, I'm happy with the contrast.

The runner is 94cm x 34cm (37"x13½").
PS, I've redesigned my banner to better reflect my change in focus, originally I was only posting paper-craft creations, but now it's rather more sewing, quilting etc with some paper-crafts occasionally. Let me know what you think of my new banner.
I looked for a long time trying to find a Machine Embroidery group which could offer support, friendship and a love of all things to do with M. E.
Since I was unable to find such a thing, I decided that I would have to start my own. and that's exactly what I did 3 months ago. I posted on a local Facebook page asking for local interest and was very pleasantly surprised to find that there were actually others like me who really wanted and even needed a group. Some because they have machines and don't know how to use them, others, like me who want to share knowledge and enjoyment, so the group was born, It was only to be 1 afternoon a month, but then I had several requests for an evening group for those who work, so now I have two sessions per month. It is anticipated that this may very well increase to fortnightly. The interest and enthusiasm are there, and in no way do I wish to dampen it down.
So far there are two types of machines use by the members, mostly Brother machines, and Janome's, a variety of machine ages, capabilities and functionality makes classes 'Interesting' I'm certainly learning how 'other' machines work.
My own beast is a Brother Quattro 4, the INV6750D , love this machine, occasionally could do with slightly bigger than my biggest hoop, but not very often.

Anyway, as the group is new, I'm doing a technique tutorial each meeting, eventually others in the group will share their ideas and projects, but for now it's up to me. September's meeting will be doing Free Standing Lace. Hence this design as a larger sample. The tutorial will feature a butterfly lace coaster, much smaller and quicker to stitch out. This is the design I'll use to introduce them to Free Standing Lace. It's rather cute and only about 4" square.

This design I'm sharing with you today I bought soooooo long ago, that I can't actually remember when I did buy it, I do know that it comes from S-Embroidery which you can find here:
S-Embroidery They have such beautiful lace designs that you're sure to find something to delight you.

This design is called SKU 10458 Butterfly Freestanding Lace Doily.

The finished size measures a fraction over 18"

This first picture shows the 8 sections joined and ready to pin to my linen fabric.

the second picture shows the finished doily washed and laid out on a towel to dry.

As it's still wet, the embroidery looks darker than when dry. it's not turned out to badly for my first go at this project. I can see a couple of mistakes which can't now be rectified, but I'll know the danger next time, and will try to not repeat the mistakes.

Free Standing lace, a bit time consuming to sew, but I sat and crocheted poppies for Remembrance day while I waited. no time wasted so its all positive.

The step by step instructions with pictures are easy to follow, and while I'm easily confused, and did have a couple of moments when I had to stop and THINK about what the instructions said not what I Thought is said, besides that, I found the bag easy to make, and have only to get over my hardware supply issues to actually make them.

This bag pictured is actually missing the slider that allows for the strap adjustment, I've ordered them online and now only have to practice that element called patience, (which I don't have much if any of)

I found a supplier on eBay, from china, free postage to Australia, LOVE it, and have placed my order. You can find said supplier here: Jmzcity2046
The items I've ordered are described as follows:

20 pieces Belt bag buckles metal wire rectangle Ring loops strap adjuster DIY 272422412456 25*16*2.8mm $2.59 Free Postage

20 Pieces Metal Sides Tri-glides wire formed roller pin buckles strap adjuster 282228714129 25*16*2.8mm $2.79 Free Postage.

The pattern calls for 38mm hardware, which is okay if you can get them, This size is only 1/3 smaller, if you work in inches, then 38mm is 1.5", these are 1" which only means that instead of cutting your strap fabric at 6" wide, you cut it at 4" wide. everything else is the same and I personally don't believe that 1/2" makes any appreciable difference.

So to the bag, The next one I'm going to do will feature some machine embroidery on the front pocket, I'll update this post when that happens. Here is what I've actually done!

This will easily hold my Samsung Galaxy tablet, my Kindle e-reader, my mobile phone and still have room for bit's and pieces, so it's perfect for me to take away on our next holiday in January 2018. (I've stuffed all the above in to make sure)

The inside pocket I divided to make a pen slot, and left the rest open, it will hold my car and house keys, with the top zip, everything is safe and secure inside.

Hope you like this little project,

Firstly the cards.

I recently bought a stamp set by Heartfelt Creations, while this is no where near a new stamp set on the market, it's new to me, so of course I have play with it, lots.....

I made several of these cards, all with slight variations, but basically the same, all were coloured with copic markers.

The next card is another birdy card, I guess you can see I'm into birds at the moment. This one uses the bird builder punch from Stampin Up, and some itty bitty flowers also punched out, shaped and tinted. The embossed background used Couture Creations JO JO embossing folder.

The following male card used a retired SU embossing folder with diagonal stripes, which I then added gold and silver metallic Washi tape between the wide channels. the Camera is an SU stamp called Snapshot (retired) and the sentiment is from SU stamp set Perfect Pennants (retired).

The In the Hoop machine embroidery, is a design from Anita Goodesign from a collection called Pocket Purses.
This Owl, and I may have at some point in the past mentioned that I love Owls. Anyway, this little fellow is so cute, and the zipper makes him look like a wide-mouth owl sort of, ish.... a little bit anyway.

There are 12 designs in the collection which include:

Cupcake

Strawberry

crayon

watermelon

Owl

Heart

Flip Flop

Dog n Bone

Cat n Fish

Butterfly

Tape cassette

Tulip

All are done in the 5x7 hoop and the instructions are very easy to follow with pictures each step of the way. You can find this set here: Anita Goodesign Pocket Purses

The people who I buy my designs from of course play a huge part in my getting such good results, because their designs are so beautiful and easy to stitch out.

My all time favourites, there are two of them are Sweet Pea Embroidery and Kreative Kiwi. If you're interested just use the links to check them out. They have amazing designs.

Here are some of the things I've made using Sweet Pea and Kreative Kiwi designs.

The first one is called Hobo clutch Bag. I've also used this design to make a much deeper bag.

The next is a table runner and it's called Free Form Table runner

The next two designs come from Kreative Kiwi.

The first is called Swirly Placemat.

this second one I absolutely adore the look of this, is called stained glass rose placemat and I used Mylar in the white sections to give it a real shimmer.

I do have other designs to share with you, most of my work I've given away as per usual, and some I forgot to take a photo of before I did, never mind, I'll just stitch them out again, and again and again.

Love them!!!

Thanks for calling by today, hope this inspires you to get embroidering.

At the beginning of each month I check to see who I need cards for during the month. This month I needed 6 cards, and since none of what I have on hand screamed "pick me" I had to make 6 cards in preparation.

I really like the Stampin Up Cable Embossing Folder. Hence my use of it here. A variety of looks, I'm really happy how each one turned out.

Card one uses Pacific Point and Whisper White and a lace doily, the tiny punched flowers are using a mini punch set now retired. The sentiment is from Birthday Banners Stamp Set.

Card 2 is using Swallowtail Stamp from Stampin Up, this now also retired. I really wanted to do this technique, I've not seen it anywhere else, but they do say there is nothing new under the sun.
After stamping the image in Bermuda Bay ink, I use a craft knife to cut around the wing then I brushed Wink of Stella clear over the wing to give it some glitter. The sentiment is from Rose Wonder.

Card 3 again uses the cable embossing folder, with a piece of lace doily around the neck. I placed pearls down the front and will add the same sentiment as shown in Card 4 ( I left it sitting on my desk when I took the photo.)

This next card (4) is another one of my own designs. I've a number of dies which you can once cut thread ribbon through. I decided to keep my theme with doily and colour and matched the ribbon. The sentiment is as before, from Rose Wonder. I used a retired SU punch to punch it out.

Card 5 is a CASE card I saw on Pinterest, the person who posted it saved it from somewhere else, who the actual designer is I don't know. but would acknowledge them if I knew.
I use Whisper White, Pretty in Pink and a white doily. some pearl brads, tiny pearls, my corrugater, I used SU Large Circle Punch, tiny flower punch and tiny blossom punches and a Heart die. some edges are inked in Pretty in Pink.

This final Card (6) is very simple in its layout. No matting, I used SU Rose Garden Thinlits to cut the basic design from Pretty in Pink, then cut again selected sections from Melon Mambo, and Pear Pizzaz. Next time I do this I'll add layering I think. Again this is not a card I've seen anywhere, it could be an original, but then again..........
you never really know.
I have reached a
level of confidence in my quilting where I’m comfortable in changing elements
to suit myself. I have even designed a quilt of my own, very basic, let's not
get too excited here.... a simple 4 patch for a very fussy granddaughter who
despite looking through my dozens of quilting books, and even more quilting
magazines, was unable to find a design she liked.

After a lot of questions,
I did eventually get an idea of what she would like, and the B&W touch of Blue
was born. Since it’s a simple 4 patch, it didn’t take long to both design cut
and piece.

For the quilting,
I used one of the Westalee Rulers called ‘Circle on Quilts, Wreath 15 COQW15’. If you're interested in these rulers, which are becoming quite famous, you can find them at www.punchwithjudy.com.au Judy has worked closely with Bill and Leonie West who developed and produce these rulers, I have participated in two on line courses in the use of these rulers, and there are now a myriad of You Tube videos showing how to use them.

Other places to purchase these rulers are Cynthia's Ark and Kornacraft.

These rulers are for guided free motion stitching, and do take a bit of
practice to get used to, but let’s be honest, if I can do it, then anyone can.
Some people have natural talents, my humble skills are born of sheer
persistence, and a refusal to be beaten till I’ve given it my very best shot.

I've known Cynthia for quite a few years now mainly though a mutual friend, but more recently I've attended one of Cynthia's uninterrupted project weekends, and later this year we are going on a 3 day retreat in the Adelaide hills for Project Uninterrupted. Here is a link to Cynthia's Ark should to wish to go visit her online shop.
Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning Cynthia, is because that is where I bought the kit for the quilt I'm sharing with you today. I did however slightly change it, I turned the image panels into picture windows because that is what I wanted.
Having reached a level of confidence in my quilting, I now like to make changes, to individualise my quilts, to make them 'mine'.
This lap quilt, as I said earlier came as a kit, I bought extra fabrics to do the looking through a window effect. I also, added the words which are appliqued in black fabric.
The ideas are there, the skills are continuing to grow, but my enthusiasm for putting out there via this blog has definitely been somewhat 'weak' shall we say and leave it at that.
That said, onward we go.
When I last posted I mentioned my Labyrinth quilt. Well, after quite a few months of cursing myself for deciding on doing pebbling, it's finally finished. AT LONG LAST.. It's really finished!

I took it along to my local quilting group last night and it was very well received. We are as I'm frequently being told, our own worst critics. I was so hesitant in displaying my work, but it's not a critic session, it's an appreciation of our achievements to have our work on display, I'll need to remind myself of this often in the future as I agonise over whether I should show, or not show my work.

As to the Quilt, here it is in all it's glory.

The pattern was designed by Christopher Florence, I purchased my pattern from 'The Guilty Quilter' you can find them at www.theguiltyquilters.blogspot.com
As per the pattern, I cut and labelled all my pieces before hand, There are only two blocks, Block A (5) Five of the 'Walls of Jericho' and Block B (4) four of the San Luigi. All 5 of the Block A were made at the same time, so by the time I'd finished one complete block A I had five of them. Same with Block B.
There are only White, Black, Medium Gray and Light Gray fabrics used in the construction of the quilt. Some people I know have used different colours, but I LOVE this combination for this quilt.
Cutting and Piecing are not difficult, if you take time and care, I had no real issues. It only took a week to make the quilt top.
HOWEVER, it took me over 6 months to do the pebbling on all the light Gray pieces. I'm not fortunate enough to have a long arm quilter, but my domestic machine does have a decent sized throat, but this is a BIG quilt. Surprisingly, or not, it measures what the pattern says it should. which is 84" square.
One change I did make, and I make no apologies for this, it's my quilt, my preference. The pattern says to take the points off two opposite corners to continue the squared off 'wall' look. I didn't do this. I left my pointed corners all 4 of them intact.

I found when I was doing the pebbling, that I could only sew for about 20 minutes at a time, the strain on my neck and shoulders was quite intense, manipulating this sized quilt through a domestic machine is not easy, but well, WELL worth the effort. I finished it off with stitch in the ditch and a geometric border design which refuses to show in a photo, as it's black on black.
Would I do another one? Not on your life, life is too short to deliberately repeat a trauma, Love it, but won't go there again.
Now if I had a long arm quilter, hell yes! I'd start another one right away. So it's all in the quilting.
Thank you for visiting my neglected blog, I'll try and do better in future.
Stay Happy,
Keep sewing, crafting whatever floats your boat, go for it.
Hugs
I was asked to do a variety of characters, and use neutral colours.

I used really good quality fabrics, and a cotton / wool wadding.

Originally I was going to quilt in each and every square, but after putting it all together, I decided that to embroider in every square would be too much.

So here is the finished quilt. It only needs a light gentle wash to remove my quilting marks. (I find that simply sponging them doesn't completely get rid of some marks, must have been a bit heavy handed with the marking pen in places)
Now I have to do another one, again in neutral colours. This quilt took about 2 weeks to make.

Thank you for visiting today.
Have a happy crafty day!

Have you ever heard the saying "You don't know what you don't know"? well that was me, never designed a quilt before and gungho as always thought "how hard can it be? Well let me tell you, it wasn't hard at all, despite people telling me I was somewhat 'Brave' to tackle it, I honestly found it quite easy.
I did after all base it on a simple 9 patch, the hardest part was deciding my fabric legend, once that was done I was off and running. Oh I also decided to make the quilt using quilt as you go and I used Some Westalee free motion ruler templates to do this. You can find how to use Westalee rulers here: Westalee YouTube Videos. You can purchase them here: Punch with Judy Westalee Design Rulers.

I have done 1 online course with Punch with Judy using the original rulers, I can now call myself and 'Original Ruler" since there have been several courses since the very first course which I did. I'm currently enrolled to do the Mystery quilt as you go quilt using templates not yet available for general sale, nor will you find these videos on You tube since they are only for this course, they will probably be posted at some later date by Westalee or Punch with Judy, I can't say.

Anyway, back to my YDKWYDK ( You don't know what you don't know) quilt, In all honesty I can't say it was all plan sailing, I made mistakes and it's far from perfect, but I was sort of happy with the end result, and it does look rather nice. Jaime-Leigh loves it and that's all that matters to me.

Here is a photo of the completed quilt.

Here it's hanging from my curtain rail, the only way I could get the whole thing photographed. It's a queen bed size.
The next photo is a closer look at the quilting. Each 12" block has this same free motion quilting done using Westalee Designs Circles on Quilts Wreath 15 COQW 15 Template.
I hope you like my Granddaughters quilt, and if it inspires you to step out of your comfort zone and make your own original and unique quilt, then wonderful, I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you for stopping by, hope you visit again when next I post.

Ps, my next project is the Labyrinth walk quilt, it's AMAZING!!! I'm currently in the process of quilting it, It's hard work on a domestic machine I tell you, but I won't let that stop me getting the look I want. So far I've learned how to do pebbles quite well if I do say so myself. Lol.
Bye for now.
I've
just completed a quilt top for my youngest granddaughter. She is a Dr who fan
and wanted a Tardis quilt as soon as I mentioned one was possible.

The quilt top measures 50<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;">½" x 80"

Instead of doing the traditional thing with this
quilt, that is layering with wadding and a backing fabric, for this one I'm
going to use Minki for the backing, and will do minimal actual quilting to hold
the two layers together.

I
believe this will make the quilt not only more snuggalicious, but be deliciously
warm and last but not least, it will I hope stand up better to washing more
frequently than a traditional quilt would be.

(I
believe there really should be a word such as “Snuggalicious” allowed in our
language, and when all is said and done, the English language is constantly
evolving and changing any ways, so I’m only helping it along a bit.)

The
pattern I used is called ‘Relatively Dimensional’ and can be found for only $10 at hunter’s
Design Studio. You can find it here Hunter's Design Studio/relatively-dimensional

I
had a beautiful red brick fabric which I decided to use as my background, but
all other fabrics used are as recommended. I bought them online at the
suggested shop.

This quilt top only took 3 days from start to finish. I do recommend cutting and labeling all pieces before you start.

For the POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX lettering, I used my brother INV6750D (Quattro 3) embroidery machine.

The pull panel, I photocopied the supplied words onto inkjet printer fabric. In retrospect I believe I should have made the ink heavier, I used a standard print setting, and while the text is clear, it could have been to my mind, a tad darker.

I know it looks a little uneven hanging up on my curtain track, but it is only the top and not yet finished, being hung a tad unevenly also give it a lop sided look, lol.

Side on so you can see the acetate tag.

The base of this card is a black A5 card scored at 10.5cm and folded, use a bone folder to give a nice sharp crease.

A layer of cream sponged around the edges comes next followed by a piece of Earth elements double sided paper onto which I created my brick wall.

I used a brick stencil and embossing paste to create the bricks, I didn't want to completely cover the specialty paper as i wanted this to be still visible for extra visual impact.

Once the embossing paste was dry, i swiped over the top with Distress Inks, I used 3 colours to get the effect i wanted.

I used a craft mat to keep my work area clean whilst using the embossing paste, and inks, this is so easy to simply wipe clean.

The Bi-plane was stamped using StazOn Jet Black onto a piece of acetate (plastic sheets) leaving sufficient space to have a hanging tab. I then stamped it again onto a scrap of cream card using Memento Tuxedo Black, I used Memento Ink because I then coloured areas of the plane with Kaszazz Alcohol Ink Art Markers. After fussy cutting out the Biplane with sharp pointed scissors and craft blade, I adhered the plane to the acetate using Glossy Accents. Don't be tempted to MOVE this once put into place. It has to be left to dry completely.

Once dry, I semi fussy cut out the biplane again, leaving a 2.5cm wide x 7cm long strip of the acetate at the top, After deciding where I wanted the plane to 'Hang' over the brick wall, I scored the acetate and adhered it to the reverse of the front panel.

The Fly HIGH be Free sentiment was stamped onto cream with Memento Tuxedo Black, opposite corners with punched with a corner rounder, inked with one of the Distress Inks used on the bricks, then mounted onto Black card. I used magic mount to fix the sentiment to the front.

I got this pattern from a Quilting book called " Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam & Nicky Lintott. Published by David & Charles ISBN:10:0-7153-2863-8. This quilt can be found on page 24 and is called "Garden Trellis". To make it I used a Moda jelly roll and completely forgot to record the name. Typical.....

I used 100% pure wool batting, and the backing fabric I bought from Kornacraft Sewing Centre which is located in Gawler SA and ships just about everywhere.

This quilt is very easy to make and uses the tubular method. I'll say no more about the pattern as it's covered by copyright.

I free motion quilted this in the centre with a large stipple. The borders are quilted in straight lines, using the faint printed lines of the border fabric as a guide. I kept an even spacing simply by using the these lines.
I don't have an owner for this quilt as yet, so may very well donate it to a raffle for some worthy cause.
A Very Special Anniversary Card

It this day and age where the majority of things are so disposable, relationships seem to fallen into this category as well. Many don't even bother getting married anymore, citing it as an out dated institution, others say they don't need a piece of paper to cement their relationship, to prove their commitment to each other. I believe we each walk our own path, and make our decisions according to how life pans out for us as individuals, we can do no more.

I come from last century, in many more ways than the obvious one. I believe in commitment, of cementing my relationship with every avenue open to me. I believe in doing the hard yards, hanging in when it might seen so much easier to simply walk away. (This does NOT mean I would ever accept physical or emotional abuse as acceptable)
My own marriage is heading rapidly towards the Golden 50 mark, it will arrive in 2018, and while it's not always been as I would like, would wish and may have dreamt of, we have (I believe) a good solid, happy, (MOST of the time) life together.

When you meet others who have been married even longer, it makes my heart sing, It makes me proud to be part of a dying breed who stick with it regardless of the trials and woes which honestly befall us all at sometime or other.

Last year I made a 60th Wedding Anniversary card for just such a wonderful couple. and I'd like to share it with you here.

It's nothing extraordinary, nothing I consider to be really special. Yes i took more time, and tizzied it up more than I would normally do. But 60 Years folk! 60 long long years, and I consider that to be something worth celebrating. So here is my celebratory 60th wedding anniversary card.

This is a gatefold card with a Heart embossed and layered over the centre front.
I used my KNK Zing to cut the banner layers, the Numerals, and the names.

there were a number of paper punches used to cut the butterflies and the flowers. These were all cut out of silver glitter paper. They were finished with rhinestones.
Inside the card was also decorated, with flowers and butterflies, non dimensional so the card sat flat in its custom made box. I can't show you a picture of the inside, I forgot to photograph it before I wrote inside.

I made a box for the card, and die cut a heart from the top which was covered with acetate. a few rhinestone flourishes and a silver and white ribbon around the edges finished a very pretty presentation.

(in my humble opinion anyway)

I can't believe how long it is since I last posted here.
I feel ashamed of myself.

The past year has seen me making a few large quilts, as well as some cot quilts for great nieces and nephews born over seas.

Having looked at my last post, I think it's over due that I post the finished Underground railroad quilt.
So here it is folks in all it's glory. I loved making this and learning the story behind it as well.

As mentioned in my last post, I went on to make a king sized quilt for my eldest son and his wife for their 25th wedding anniversary which was last March.

Here is that finished quilt.

This is laid out on my dinning room floor, it's easier to see the whole quilt if it's not on the bed.
the next photo is a close up. This is the first time I tried stippling.

In my next post, I'll show you some photo's of other quilts I've made in the mean time.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
This is using the Underground RAilroad Sampler Book by Eleanor Burns & Sue Bouchard. Published by Quilt in a Day ISBN: 1-89177613-4. I bought my book via Ebay and paid a fortune for it. You can however get it from Quilt in a Day Quilt in a Day Underground Railroad Sampler book

The quilt tells the story of how Slaves were helped to escape slavery via the messages in the quilts.

So far I have made the first 9 of 16 blocks. I say 16 but the final block is actually the story which I've scanned onto printable fabric and will then make into a block, as opposed to using it as a label on the back of the finished quilt.

The book gives you all the instruction you need to complete each block, from the fabric qty needed in total to the individual block qty, piece cutting to step by step making of each block.

Anyway, here are my completed blocks 1 to 9.

The quilt uses 4 Background fabrics, 3 Reds, 3 Brown, 3 Green, 3 Blue, and Black.

One thing which I didn't realise until I got to block 4 Carpenters Wheel, was that the book pretty much requires you to have the Quilt in a Day flying geese ruler. Otherwise it's rather difficult to get your flying geese block trimmed to the correct size. You are able to purchase these from Quilt in a Day, or there are other stores online within Australia where you can easily purchase them without paying the exorbitant postage charges for freight from America.

I hope you enjoy the journey that this quilt takes you on. I'll post the remaining blocks once they are all completed.

Some card making....After having lost my mojo for card making, (not helped by my renewed passion for quilting) I've finally got around to actually making some cards.

I've enjoyed the pleasure of inky fingers, and colour selections once again. I must make sure to keep at it now.

Anyway, here's what I've been up to.
Hope you enjoy. Thank you for visiting my blog today.

The first card is using a technique i've not done in what seems like years, but probably only a couple of years. It's called Lacing. This particular circular design uses's a metal template so you can simply place the blade of your craft knife into the slots and cut them. then of course you fold and tuck to create the design. The centre is a medallion from the new Stampin Up Catalogue called "Petal Potpourri" Catalogue number 138586, which I inked in versamark and heat embossed in gold.

I simply love the simplicity of these band aid designs. I saw a card made similar to this on the internet and fell in love with the concept. Here are my two versions.
For the faces, I used some Peachy Keen stamps i have, and then added little googly eyes for effect. LOVE it.

This card uses some of the Stampin Up's chalkboard cardstock. and stamps with chalk inks. I added to the chalk effect by going over the design with the Stampin Up Chalk marker. The stamp set used is from the new catalogue and is called 'Big Day' Catalogue number 139112. Pm me if you wish to order any Stampin Up supplies.

The final card for today is again using lacing. This one however is a plastic multi design template by Paper Pizazz HOTP 7306, called Diamond Folds. with this template you position it where you wish your design to be, then use a pencil to lightly mark the chevrons. Once all are marked, remove the template and cut the marked lines with a sharp craft knife of choice. Finally you fold and tuck to finish the design. I usually use a tiny spot of aquadhere to keep my points tucked firmly.
The flower is from a new Stampin up set called 'Butterfly Basics', catalogue No.137154
My last post showed some of the blocks. Here is the quilt top al ready for layering up.
Since this was taken I've layered it up and am now ready to start the machine quilting. I'm still in the process of determining which designs to use. Since I made two extra blocks to be made into matching cushions, I'm using one of them to test the designs on. (thats after practicing on scrap calico to make sure the sizes are what I want).

I'm so pleased with how the quilt is coming together as this is my first wholly pieced quilt.

As well as this quilt, I'm also halfway through Machine embroidering the blocks for my next quilt.
This quilt will have 15 x 9" x 6" blocks which are machine embroidered with Australian heritage buildings, I'll post pics of this work in progress in my next post.

To finish today, here is a photo of the sewn Christmas wall hanging I've just finished. each section started off with 61/2" triangles. Each triangle started off as two pieces of fabric measuring 61/2" on the 60 degree triangle ruler. sewn right sides together then turned right side out.
The points were sewn into the centre point with a bead added, the work was then turned over and the centre of each straight edge was also sewn into the centre. Easy to do, difficult to explain. These can be done any size and take no time at all to make.
Here is my finished hanging. Hope you like.
